JOANNA + CHRIS
Custom designing wedding gowns for our brides is always a fun and creative time for the team here at Sophie Voon Bridal. We are honoured to be able to help bring a bride's dream dress to life. So when Joanna came in to see us, with a vintage style tea length gown on her mind, we were more than happy to help!
Chris and Joanna have a love for vintage and retro things, and wanted to include this in the details of their wedding day. Joanna wore beautiful lady like gloves, pearl earrings and a delicate lace headband with her dress, finishing her look with a gorgeous pair of silk shoes with silk blooms on the toe.
Joanna had always wanted a tea length dress, and took inspiration from existing designs at Sophie Voon Bridal in creating an original design with the design team. Her custom designed dress featured a gorgeous corded lace bodice and full pleated silk dupion skirt. The back of Joanna's dress had a beautiful sheer lace button detail.
Chris and Joanna had always envisioned having a garden wedding, so they chose to have an intimate and private garden ceremony and reception in Halswell Christchurch. Their family and friends came around them in planning the wedding, willingly helping with the details for the day and generously providing decorations, desserts, reception flowers and music.
As Joanna walked down the aisle she was filled with excitement. Surrounded by family and friends, with Chris waiting for her, she was in amazement that their wedding was happening right then and there. The lead up to the ceremony had been very busy and Chris felt like it had been a bit of a blur, but as soon as he had seen Joanna walking down through the garden looking gorgeous, he felt relaxed and natural.
Joanna and Chris loved their wedding day, and have some truthful words of wisdom for couples planning their own weddings:
"Make sure your day is what you envisioned and not what others expect or what you think they would expect. It’s always said that the day goes quickly, which we discovered is true, so make sure you don’t get caught up stressing about the little things – especially things you can’t change like the weather! It was edging on rain the whole day of our wedding but we just went with it and stayed relaxed."
